Yes, you must have a valid CTS certification before sitting for the CTS-D or CTS-I exam.
Before registering with Pearson VUE, register for the CTS exam; choose between the online application and the PDF application. Both can be found on the AVIXA website. After your application is processed, check your inbox for an email with the subject line, “CTS Candidate Eligibility Notice”. Directions on how to finish your registration and your member ID can be found in the email.
Nonmembers pay:
$490 (USD), 475€ (EUR), £395 (GBP), or AU$780 (AUD)
Premium and Elite members pay:
$390 (USD), 375€ (EUR), £315 (GBP), or AU$620 (AUD)

You will need 30 RUs to renew. You can earn them from any combination of AVIXA training and approved-manufacturer training. You may renew up to 180 days early.
No, you are not required to complete any courses to complete the exam. The preparation for the exam can be done based on what each individual needs. However, we recommend you start with our course Quick Start to the AV Industry if you are new to all things AV. Following that, we recommend our AV Essentials track, including the four modules Audio 1, Video 1, Networking 1, and AV Infrastructure. Finally, complete the CTS-Prep track, including the modules Audio 2, Video 2, Networking 2, Creating AV Solutions, Implementing AV Solutions, and Servicing AV Solutions. All modules can be completed in any order. As additional practice, you may also refer to the AVIXA-Recognized AV Technologist Test, AV Math, and our CTS Sample Questions, all of which can be found on the Training Catalog.

Certified Technology Specialist™ (CTS®) holders at all levels of certification have demonstrated audiovisual knowledge and/or skills. Certified individuals adhere to the CTS Code of Ethics and Conduct and maintain their status through continued education. Certification demonstrates commitment to professional growth in the audiovisual industry and is strongly supported by AVIXA®.
All eligibility, application, score reports, special accommodation requests and general inquiries regarding AVIXA certification will be handled through the AVIXA Certification Office, with headquarters located in Fairfax, Va., U.S.A. Purchases of education, membership, or any other AVIXA services are not required to seek certification.
